Eco-Friendly Love

Earth is losing its charm and somewhere we all are responsible for it. Being eco-friendly or environmentally friendly is important to protect it from further disaster. We have heard about Go green initiatives and many of us are taking this seriously too. Just like we protect our loved ones, why can’t we protect the only place which has given us a place to stay and evolve?

I was chatting with one of my friends last week and this sudden idea of what an Eco-friendly way of dwelling in love can be popped up in our heads. So here it is:

  1. Date –This is the best moment of our routine when we get to spend some time with our partner. It could be anywhere. Going out for a movie, disco or park. And we start preparing for it, ever since we plan it. We want to look good and we do everything to make that happen. The first being, shower. Do you realize, for an average shower time of 8 minutes, it takes around 75 liters of water? That’s something which we can try to avoid. No one is asking you to bath less often. It’s just that make it quick and turn off the shower whenever you are not using it, even if it’s only for a few seconds. Remember, if we don’t follow this now, we might end up showing NO WATER FOR SURVIVAL days to our next generation. Save Water.
  2. Long Drives – We all like to have those secret and private long drives in the middle of the night, or on a weekend. But did we know, 75% of carbon monoxide emissions come from automobiles? A lot of air pollution is coming from our very own vehicles and if we don’t try to stop this now, we all know its consequences. I understand taking public transportation isn’t so romantic. But use one as much as you can to get to your weekend destination. Even a walk in the park with your partner or a bicycle ride can be equally romantic and serene. Just give a try. Drive less, walk more.
  3. Gifts – We love to be gifted and if it’s from the person whom we love madly, that feeling is incomparable. Presenting a red rose is an old fashion to express your love, so the next time you try giving a small indoor pot plant. Keep it in your balcony, it will remind you of that special one every time you water it. Let it grow, just like your love. Plants give you Oxygen and nothing apart from this can be the best gift for the love of your life.
  4. Candlelight dinner –Though energy efficient products consume less energy and can light your house well enough to prove you are eco-friendly, why not add a tinge of romance to it by arranging a candlelight dinner sometimes? But do remember, not all candles are eco-friendly. Avoid buying candles with extra packaging and plastic. Not all wax is good, some of them release harmful chemicals, so keep a tab of it before buying candles. My suggestion, buy candles with glass containers or aluminum Base. They may cost a few bucks more. But Aluminum and Glass both can be recycled.
  5. Outdoor meets – Going in the malls? Parks? Movies? Or anywhere outdoor? Don’t litter around. We tend to buy eatables, juices, cold drinks and we are so busy in our own little world, that we forget to dispose of the leftovers in the right place. Littering impacts our environment. If we are a responsible lover, why not take the responsibility of building a clean city for our loved ones around us?

There can be so many other ways to contribute to this. Please share your inputs and practices. We all can always learn from each other.
